Manually shuffling that many cards is a real pain, especially if small or arthritic hands are involved! We found one of these shufflers on our travels, and EVERYONE wanted one. I ordered 7 more and gave them away to family & friends -- they are still thanking us.
Ours has had heavy use, and is still working fine and on the first set of batteries. One side feeder sometimes needs a slight lift on the outside edge of the cards in order to feed smoothly (no big deal, but you might try it if one side feeds faster than the other). We found that some cheaper cards can have their edges roughed up by the process, but most cards stay newer longer because they are not being bent across the middle.
It's a little noisier, but we actually enjoy shuffling now, and one of the kids stated that the machine could keep him amused for hours even without a game.
